The journal

Every cigar worth remembering, remembered. Nothing here is for sale — this is yours.

Remember a cigar

My draw

No cigars yet. The next one you enjoy goes here — with the band, the note, and the evening attached.

Humidor

What you've smoked, newest first.

Your cigars

Nothing logged yet.

The notebook

Small, independent, owner-run — the rooms worth the drive. Organised by state, then by city. Every place here was checked against its own site plus an outside source, and confirmed open. Hours appear only as the business itself publishes them; where a place publishes none, it says so rather than borrowing a number off a listing site. Where the room is a counter and not a lounge, or the law will not let you smoke in it, that is said plainly too.

Before you go

Plain-English notes. No jargon for its own sake.

Vitola, in plain English

Vitola is just the cigar's shape and size — a Robusto is short and thick, a Churchill long and slim, a Toro in between. Size changes how long you sit with it more than it changes the flavour.

Wrapper does the talking

The wrapper leaf is the outermost layer and carries a large share of what you taste. Connecticut Shade reads light and creamy; Maduro and Oscuro are darker, sweeter, richer. It is the first thing worth writing down.

Ring gauge

The diameter, measured in 64ths of an inch. A 50 ring gauge is 50/64 of an inch across. Bigger ring, more filler, usually a cooler and slower smoke.

Draw and burn

Draw is how easily air pulls through; burn is whether the ash line stays even. Both are craft, not flavour — but they decide whether the hour is pleasant.

Strength is not flavour

Strength is nicotine impact. Body is how heavy it feels on the palate. Flavour is what you actually taste. A cigar can be full-flavoured and mild.
